1.8.2 – Improved mobile compatibility

From version 1.8.2 onwards, mobile compatibility is much, much better :)

Mobile detection

Mobile detection is performed on the server once per page load (not per video) and it’s extremely lightweight (excellent performance).

If a visitor is browsing your site with a mobile device the plugin outputs mobile friendly code.

99% of mobile devices can be detected.

Consistent layout

Fixed width videos are not mobile friendly. In this version, not anymore since the plugin will serve fluid width videos (width=100%) to mobiles devices even if you have set a width or height in your shortcodes.

Opera Mobile/Mini special support

Opera browser (Presto engine) replaces video embed codes with an image of the video linked to the phone’s Youtube app. With this in mind, if a visitor uses Opera mobile/mini browser to visit your site, the plugin outputs the html code Opera expects. This way, design & functionality don’t break.

Test it right now: visit this site’s articles with your mobile phone!!

  1. Hi,

i have a website built with jQuery Mobile and WordPress and I installed the plugin. Great plugin, nice functionalities. Only on high-end devices (like the Galaxy Nexus) the video is the fully displayed, device-width x device-height.

Are you common with this problem?

  2. Thanks for this plug-in.
I have one small problemen with showing an embedded YouTube on an iPad2. It does not start, while your samples run fine.
    Any suggestion?
This what i have entered on my WP page:
    [youtube_sc v=qiirLL4f1wQ rel=0 fs=1 autohide=1 modestbranding=1]
    See: http://www.nemoboscross.nl/?page_id=457
It all works fine with other browsers so far.

    Thanks in advance
    Adrie

    • I’ve tested your site with an iPhone and works fine. I don’t have an iPad though, just a simulator for developers and works fine.

If my samples run fine, try another video from Youtube or, if needed, update the browser and the Youtube app in your iPad.

Also make sure to use the latest version of the plugin (1.8.2).

      Cheers!
