1.8.1 – Support for the AS2 player (Flash only)

From 1.8.1 onwards I’ve added support for the AS2 player (ActionScript 2).

The AS2 player uses Flash only and was deprecated time ago by Youtube (Youtube now uses the AS3 player).

Why do you add support for AS2 if it’s deprecated?

Deprecated does not mean it does not work anymore, in fact it works great as of today.

I added support for it so you can use the following parameters which are not supported by neither the AS3 Flash player nor the HTML5 player: bordercolor1color2egmhd, and showsearch.

One of the most interesting and used parameters was hd which allowed us to force HD playback by default (720p). Well, now you can again, learn how.

How do I select the AS2 mode?

Easy pal, simply set the version parameter to 2.

Here’s a demo using the AS2 player and all those “old” parameters:

The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback.
Get the latest Flash Player or Watch this video on YouTube.

Shortcode used:

[youtube_sc v=yU-mhdHXDUc version=2 hd=1 fs=1 showsearch=0 border=1 color1=ff0000 color2=aaff5 egm=1]
